Celebrate WAM’s 83rd birthday with an old-fashioned ice cream social. Wichita Wagonmasters will scoop up gallons and gallons of cold Hiland Dairy ice cream. Choose your favorite toppings from Nifty Nut House, and listen to live music provided by the Wichita Steel Drum Band. Stroll through the galleries, and visit the Art Studio to join in a cool community art project. Free ice cream and admission.
In this exciting workshop, you’ll learn about the ancient art of suminagashi and will utilize those skills in creating a mixed media portrait of the Statue of Liberty with a colorful firework background using paints and pastels.

ArtVenture takes the fun outdoors! Explore special activities and games in the Art Garden (weather permitting). Try an art-themed scavenger hunt, blow giant bubbles, create a unique sculpture, and more.
This seasonal, drop-in tour opportunity will take visitors outdoors to explore the Art Garden and its sculptures. Meet in the museum’s front lobby. Please dress accordingly for an outdoor tour. In case of inclement weather, an indoor museum tour will take place. Ages 6 and above are welcome. Free admission and no registration required.

Artists Charlotte Potter and April Surgent plus guest curator Vicki Halper join members for a lively gathering with a creative photo opportunity in the Birdie Booth by Lamphouse Photo Booth Co. Join a WAM docent for this seasonal, drop-in tour opportunity to explore the Art Garden and its sculptures. Meet in the Boeing Foyer. Please dress accordingly for the weather; in the event of inclement weather, an indoor museum tour will take place. Ages six and older are welcome for this free tour. No registration required.
Make the Friends of the Wichita Art Museum Art & Book Fair a part of your family’s Mother’s Day weekend activities. In its 59th year, the fair features national and regional artists, entertainment staged in the Art Garden and museum. Linnebur & Miller will present a unique photo booth, creating keepsakes of this special event. The popular book sale with hundreds of great finds will be in the S. Jim and Darla Farha Great Hall. The Muse Cafe offers a special menu on Saturday and a traditional Mother’s Day Brunch on Sunday. There will be food trucks outside the museum offering a variety of choices—you are sure to find something to please your palate.
In celebration of Impressionist artists and the pioneering capital of Paris, France, families will explore paint and color activities to create to create their own masterworks. Multiple artmaking projects will take place in the Living Room and Art Studio. Admission to Family ArtVenture and general admission to the museum is free. Admission to the temporary special exhibition, “Monet to Matisse,” is $7 for adults, $5 for seniors, free for students with ID and youth up to age 17. Special exhibition tickets are available at the museum’s Welcome Desk.

Children will use the brightest, shiniest colors to paint bold, brilliantly colorful pictures that will brighten their spirits as well as their smiles. Art Start is a FREE program for children ages 3 to 5 to engage with art, imagine, and learn together. The theme changes each month, so come back once a month for a fresh take on the museum. Thursdays are for preschoool classes or daycare centers: children ages 3 to 5 and their chaperones. Advance registration is required; go to wichitaartmuseum.org/artstart.
