Mom’s Night Out :: Bunco, Baby!

I look forward to the second Wednesday of each month ALMOST as much as date night with my husband! Why? It’s bunco night – better known as Mom’s Night Out!

What is Bunco?

You play rounds and roll your dice to get a specific number for that round.  For example, in Round 1, I would roll the dice to get as many ones as possible.  The first team to 21 wins and the round is over.  So why is it called Bunco?  If you are in a round and roll all three dice as that number, you get a Bunco and get to yell “BUNCO!”  The person with the most Buncos at the end of the night wins.  You can find the complete rules here.

What do I need to start a Bunco Group?

Players

You need at least 8 players (sometimes 12) that are willing to rotate through hosting the night at their house.

Bunco Kit

You can find a Bunco kit online here.  We are lucky to have several creative ladies in our group and some of the hosts go all out with scorecards, adding a theme to them and printing them on card stock with cute pencils.

Food!

The host typically prepares a variety of snack foods for the guests.  This is great because we rotate through houses and you only have to cook once!

Mommy Juice (optional)

No need to explain here after the day most of us have had!

Prizes

Each of us add $5 to the pot when we arrive, and at the end of the night split the money based on whoever has the most wins throughout the night, most losses and most buncos (see rules).

If you’re looking for a fun night out with other moms but don’t know where to begin, start a Bunco group!  You’ll be so glad you did!

Her husband's job took them to Maine for a few years until they settled down just north of Wichita for a quiet, small town life. She loves to scrapbook, quilt (yes, she said quilt), craft, throw parties, drink wine and spend a conceivably, unhealthy amount of time on Pinterest.
