Community Resources for Moms :: Interventions and Services for Wichita Families

Life doesn’t always turn out the way we planned – and when you have kids, the stakes are even higher. The following agencies offer support and services for moms and kids in the Wichita area.

1-800-CHILDREN (helpline)

KCSL’s free, anonymous Parent Helpline offering an empathetic ear and trained listener who can help navigate any situation they may be struggling with. They can also refer callers to Wichita agencies for assistance with specific issues. 

Child Abuse Wichita

Wichita’s leading resource on child abuse – from statistics and how to recognize the signs, to volunteer opportunities and how to report suspected abuse.

Dress for Success

Dress for Success empowers women to achieve economic independence by providing a network of support, professional attire and development tools to help them thrive in work and in life.

Embrace

Embrace offers free pregnancy testing, counseling, STD testing and other services to women who think they may be experiencing an unplanned pregnancy or sexually transmitted disease.

Financial Peace University

“A Better Way to Manage Your Money” Learn how to pay off debt and save for the future with this financial class from Dave Ramsey. Local groups available,

Fresh Hope

This program aids in breaking the cycle of poverty and/or domestic violence and is designed for women who are ready for a fresh start but need a little help to get there.

Healthy Babies

Healthy Babies is an educational program for families, with no out of pocket expense to the participant. Registered nurses and community liaisons provide education & family support through home & office visits.

Kansas Head Start

Head Start emphasizes not only children’s cognitive development but also their social, emotional and physical development, and has a very strong parent involvement component.

His Helping Hands

His Helping Hands provides help to struggling Wichita families by distributing  clothing, furniture, and other household items at no cost every Saturday morning.

KCSL Crisis Nursery

Short-term care services for children when parents are experiencing an unexpected crisis, such as parental or sibling illness or death, lack of utilities/food/shelter, domestic violence, drug/alcohol treatment, etc. 

Kansas Childcare Subsidies

The Child Care Subsidy Program helps pay for child care costs for many types of families: those receiving TANF, low-income working families, and teen parents completing high school or GED.

Kansas Vision Card

A nutrition assistance program which provides a Kansas Benefit card (plastic debit card) to eligible persons to purchase food. Monthly benefits are provided on a Kansas Benefit card (Vision card), which looks and functions like a debit card.

Medicaid (KanCare)

KanCare is the name for the State of Kansas’ Medicaid program. KanCare is managed care that combines health care (like doctor visits) with community long-term services and supports (like help in your home).

The Tree House

The Treehouse provides moms with parenting education, one-time free distribution of basic infant necessities (for eligible mothers), a thrift store (newborn to 8 youth clothing & basic supplies) and extra assistance (up to 3 times a year for diapers or formula).

TANF

The Successful Families Program offers employment services and support services to low-income families. That support may include cash assistance. 

Thrive ICT

Thrive partners with other providers to create a collective of services that survivors can choose from to serve their individual needs for trauma management, life management, and community support. ​

Wichita Area Sexual Assault Center

WASAC offers free and confidential crisis intervention, support, information & referrals, as well as a toll-free crisis line: 1 (877) 927-2248.

WIC

WIC is a nutrition program that provides nutrition & health education, healthy food & other services to Kansas families who qualify (pregnant & breastfeeding women, new moms, & kids under age 5).

Wichita Family Crisis Center

The mission of the Wichita Family Crisis Center is to eliminate domestic violence in our community by supporting survivors through shelter, education, and advocacy. 24/7 Crisis Line: 316-267-SAFE
