Books to Get Your Kids Pumped for Spring & Easter

Spring has sprung! With a new season and new holidays quickly rolling in, I like to add a little variety to my boys’ book shelves.

With the help of the internet, our large assortment of books at home, and the holiday section at the library, here is a list of books to help get you in the mood for spring and Easter.

Favorite Familiar Characters:

Pete the Cat: Big Easter Adventure–Pete the Cat wakes up Easter morning to a note from the Easter Bunny. He needs Pete’s help in gathering, painting and hiding his Easter eggs. While helping his friend, Pete realizes that helping others is what Easter is all about.

Pinkalicious: Eggstraordinary Easter–Pinkalicious wakes up and remembers that Easter is when Edgar the Easter Bunny returns. She sees a basket with a note from Edgar and the first clue in a scavenger hunt. Pinkalicious and her family embark on a hunt around town for Easter baskets and clues that the Easter Bunny has left for them.

Nancy Drew & The Clue Crew: Chick-Napped (Chapter Book)–Nancy Drew’s case starts with her class watching their science project of baby chicks hatching. The next three days three “crimes” occur  and The Clue Crew is on the case to solve the mystery. From finding missing buttons to seeing a mess made by markers, The Clue Crew will stop at nothing to find out who stole the baby chicks.

Easter and Passover Books:

Here Comes T. Rex Cottontail–T. Rex has been asked by Peter Cottontail to deliver the Easter eggs because Peter is sick. With the help of his dinosaur friends, T. Rex works on his hopping and find eggs to decorate. They save Easter and even make it special for Peter Cottontail by delivering a special egg to him.

The Story of Easter–This story starts with spring and how it brings baby animals and flowers. It then segues into the story of Easter in a way that children will easily understand. This was the first Easter book my son had, and it is well worn from reading during the season.

Is It Passover Yet?–A story that helps remind kids all the spring things such as winter snow melting, birds returning and spring cleaning means Passover is coming. And when the best dishes are laid, special foods are made and family and friends arrive that Passover has also arrived.

Spring Books:

The Very Hungry Caterpillar–This book is a no-brainer and should be on all lists–not just Spring! The colorful imagery with the list of all the things the caterpillar eats to complete his transformation is a favorite in our house.

Kite Day–Bear and Mole are so excited the weather is perfect for a Kite Day! They make a kite and take it out. While flying their kite a storm rolls in {how very Kansas of the weather}. Their kite breaks and they chase after it only to find it helping in an unexpected way.

The Thing About Spring–Rabbit doesn’t want winter to end because he likes winter. His friends Mouse, Bird and Bear try to tell him all the good things about spring and what it means.

Henry and Mudge in Puddle Trouble (Beginner Reader)— Three stories featuring Henry and his dog Mudge  that revolve around spring and the different antics the two friends get in to. The stories are written in a way that a beginner reader feels they are reading more of a chapter book instead of a “kid” book.

These are just a few of the many books that are great for kids to learn about and welcome in spring. I know we’ll be continuing our tradition and finding more books every year to add to the list!Spring and Easter Books
