Get Crafty this November :: 30 Days of Thanks

Although we should feel thankful every month, November has become the unofficial month of thanks. A month where we take time out of our daily lives and focus on everything we have to be thankful for. I’m sure you’ve seen the {slightly excessive} daily posts of some of your Facebook friends in past Novembers. While I’m not suggesting you announce to every acquaintance what you’re thankful for, I do believe it’s a wonderful idea to practice with your family. And why not get crafty and have fun with it so that your kids will want to participate? Here is an easy 30 Days of Thanks DIY craft to help instill gratefulness this November.

1. Gather your supplies. You’ll need:

  • 1 Large Poster Board
  • Markers and/or Pens
  • Leaf Cut-Outs (Print several copies of this Fall Leaves PDF)
  • Glue Stick
  • Scissors

2.  Cut out as many leaves as you will need. (1 per child per day)

3.  Write “We Are Thankful For…” on the top of your poster board.

4.  Draw a bare tree on your poster board – something like this:

5.  Each day have your children write down one thing they are thankful for on a leaf.

6.  Use a glue stick and glue each leaf onto your poster board.

7.  At the end of November, marvel at everything you have to be thankful for this year!

8. Repeat next November, or as often as desired!

You can make one poster for the entire family, or let each child make their own poster. You can also use this concept and apply it to other holidays such as making a Christmas tree poster with ornaments in December, a poster full of hearts for Valentine’s day, a poster with colorful eggs for Easter, etc. If we get into the habit of focusing on what we’re thankful for rather than our ever growing wish lists of cool new gadgets and toys, we would all be better off.
