Music Theatre Wichita to Offer Expanded 2021 Season | Tickets on Sale April 2

Wichita, KS – After being forced to cancel its 2020 season, Music Theatre Wichita is back to live performances! Musical theatre typically requires lots of close contact between actors and backstage artists, so this season is far from typical. Here’s what to expect:

  • This 50th Anniversary season is expanded – rather than five productions during the summer months, this year features seven experiences spanning April through November.
  • Four productions will take place at the Capitol Federal Amphitheater in Andover. The atmosphere will be festive, with food trucks, drinks from Shaken or Stirred Bartending, and – for the first Music Theatre Wichita production Smokey Joe’s Cafe in Concert – pre-show entertainment at 7pm!
  • Lots of COVID precautions (including mask wearing while indoors and in common areas) will be implemented for this year. A full list of policies and details can be found here.

Music Theatre Wichita’s 2021 Season

April 28-May 2

Smokey Joe’s Cafe in Concert at the Capitol Federal Amphitheater. A fast-paced evening of favorite blues/rock tunes of the 1950s, including “On Broadway” and “Love Potion #9.”

May 13-16

No More Talk of Darkness: Phantom’s Jeremy Stolle at the Capitol Federal Amphitheater. Broadway leading man Jeremy Stolle and friends present an evening of showstoppers from classic Broadway tunes to “The Greatest Showman.”

June 16-20

Mirette, in Convention Hall at Century II. These shows have limited capacity and will sell quickly! Based on the Caldecott-winning book “Mirette on the High Wire,” a young girl befriends a broken-down high wire walker with uplifting results. (Children must be at least 5 years of age to attend a performance. Also, as this performance is indoors, all attendees will wear a mask throughout the 90 minute show.)

July 2-4

Red, White, and Broadway: A Star-Studded Tribute to America! at the Capitol Federal Amphitheater. July 2 and 3 are already sold out! July 4 will have fireworks at the end of the concert, which features local performers, many of whom have Broadway credits.

August 25-29

Golden: MTWichita at 50! in Convention Hall at Century II. Broadway stars Matt Bogart and Desi Oakley (a Wichita native!) return to lead an evening of high-energy entertainment.

September 15-19

Grease at the Capitol Federal Amphitheater, in its first-ever production at MTWichita. This show is selling quickly – we’re predicting a visit to Rydell High will be in order as the 2021 school year ramps up!

November 10-14

Twelfth Night in Convention Hall at Century II. A masterful creation by singer/songwriter Shaina Taub, this new show weaves original Shakespearean language with an upbeat jazz-funk score (bonus points if you catch the Beyoncé quote when you see it).
