Non-Profit Partner
Wichita Women’s Initiative Network was founded more than 20 years ago to help women survivors of abuse heal and become emotionally and financially independent of their abusers. That’s important because the No. 1 reason a woman stays in an abusive relationship is that she’s financially dependent on her abuser.Domestic abuse is about power and control by one partner in a relationship over another, and can be physical, emotional or financial. In Sedgwick County alone, there are more than 6,000 instances of domestic abuse each year, affecting people of all ages, races, incomes and education levels. WIN helps break the cycle of abuse and financial dependence through its holistic, 20-hour-a-week program that pays women a small wage while it helps them rebuild their self-confidence and learn the skills necessary to be successful on the job and as single parents managing a household on their own. Women typically graduate from the program in 12-18 months, after completing WIN on-site training and successfully obtaining full-time employment in the community. After graduation, WIN continues to provide encouragement and resources to the women for as long as they need and want it.
Mummies’ Night Out guests can support WIN by bringing donated items. One additional giveaway ticket will be given for each item donated up to five, although you may bring as many as you’d like!
