Spring Break 2017 is right around the corner! For those of you staycationing in Wichita, here are some ideas of things you can do to make memories with your kids while enjoying yourself at the same time. Added bonus? Your house will stay clean during the day because no one will be there! You might also feel less guilt about giving them screen time during the twilight hour since you packed an active, educational outing under your familial belt. It’s a win-win-win!

*CityArts – CityArts presents “Road Trip Across America,” a week-long excursion into the art and history of five great American cities. Camps run dailyMarch 20-24, 2017. More information can be found at www.wichitacityarts.org or by calling (316) 350-3245.
*Cosmosphere – The Cosmosphere science education center and space museum in Hutchinson will be holding free engineering themed activities for children of all ages during the Spring Break weeks of March 17- April 1. From scavenger hunts through our world-famous museum to learning how to program robots and taking a behind-the-scenes tour of the Cosmosphere camp area, visitors will get an opportunity to participate in hands-on science while having lots of fun. Dart Warz – Offering an indoor foam dart battlefield (a family-friendly alternative to paintball or airsoft), make a memory your kids are sure to remember and take advantage of their special Spring Break hours! Though normally closed on Mondays and Tuesdays, with limited hours on Wednesdays and Thursdays, during the week of March 20-24, Dart Warz will be open every day at 11:00 AM-7:00 PM, with late hours from 7:00 PM-11:00 PM on Wednesday and Friday nights. You can bring your own dart blaster if you want and stop by anytime during open hours to get in the action!

*Spring Break Edventures :: Discover the Ice Age (K-5) -Register your elementary children for some hands-on fun!. Students will do everything from design and build a mammoth habitat to build a tent and “hunt” for food. Choose just one day or more or sign up for the whole week! Classes are March-20-24, 9am to 4pm ($30 members/$35 non-members). Before and after care available for $5 each.
*TinkerTech Spring Edventures :: Craft the Future (5th Grade – 9th Grade)- Register your middle schoolers to design their own games using coding skills, Raspberry Pi’s, BloxelsTM and more! Classes are March 20-24, 9am-4pm ($125 per member/ $140 per non-member). Before and after care available for $5 each.
*Kansas Humane Society – Register your animal lovers for the 2017 Spring Break Critter Camp! They’ll learn about animals and have lots of fun at the same time! Activities include games, skits, tours, and crafts focused on basic animal care and safety, pet training, the bond shared between people and companion animals, the importance of veterinary care and ways to address the problem of pet homelessness and overpopulation in our community. *MARKARTS – Mark Arts STEAM Camps are all about creativity and innovation, linking art to concepts in science, technology, engineering and math. Students ages 6 to 12 will explore mixed media, drawing, painting, clay and experiments. At the end of the week, students will showcase their work for family and friends to enjoy. *Monart School of Art at the Art Park – Don’t miss the Mixed Media Themed Spring Break Camp at Monart School of Art! Register your little artist for fun skill building art camps during spring break. Students will experience a different media each day. Along with a drawing, students will rotate between craft stations, have center time and play outside weather permitting. All day students will also participate in gym with Coach Dave from the Wichita Angels and music theater with Miss Marcee from Music Together. Geared for ages 5-12, age groupings will be determined upon enrollment (9am – 12:30pm, $25 per half-day, 9am-4pm, $40 per day)
*Paint the Towne – Paint the Towne will have Family Paint days M-F 11-12pm. Door Decor from 1-3pm, and Kids Night Out Monday March 20th and Friday the 24th 6:00-8:30pm
*Riverside Music Together – Join the most beloved early childhood music program and make music together with us March 14th, 15th, or 16th in our FREE Spring demo classes! Morning and evening classes are available for mixed ages (0-5) and big kids (0-7). It’s a music making community full of fun and learning!
*Sedgwick County Zoo – Kids in grades 1-5 can explore the Zoo while school is out! Wonders of Wildlife Spring Fling gives children the opportunity to have a good time, make new friends, all while learning (even though school is not in session). This all day, all week program engages students with animals in nature with classroom experiments and field lessons as well as having fun with peers! Class meets 8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. Early drop off and late pick up options are available in WOW Before Care and WOW After Care. Each child is required to have a ticket for the five day class. No partial tickets will be sold.
* The Bug Lady – If your children appreciate the bug life more than you do, consider dropping them off at one or more of The Bug Lady’s 2017 Spring Break day camps, featuring “Bugs, Goo, and Critters Too!” Children aged 4 years and up are welcome, and they can attend one or all of the day camps offered from 9 am to 12 pm, March 20-24. The fee is $25 per day (ask about sibling discounts). Classes fill up quickly, and pre-registration is required.
*United Way of the Plains – Make Spring Break an opportunity for your family to give back to our city! During spring break, the United Way offers great community service and volunteer for kids ages 12 and up through its Youth Days of Caring program. Visit their website for more details.
Wichita Art Museum – Spend your Spring Break at the Wichita Art Museum! On Tuesday, March 21 through Saturday, March 25, from 11 am to 3 pm, swing by WAM for some serious Artcation fun. During Spring Break Week, the museum welcomes kids, high schoolers, and their families for a noisy good time. Try your hand at special art projects in the museum’s Living Room. See family-friendly flicks selected especially for spring break. Explore the galleries with cool gallery guides and games. Each day highlights a new theme and art projects. Come one day, or come for all! All children and high school/college students (with ID) receive museum admission for just a $1! Kids under 5 get free admission. Regular admission applies for adults; WAM members are always free.
*Wichita Gymnastics – March 21-24 from 1:00-4:00pm. Give your kids a staycation – let them enjoy an active Spring Break with Wichita Gymnastics. They’ll play games, ride the zip line, wander through the maze, climb the rock wall, do the rings challenge and much more! $15 for 1 child, $10 each sibling. Call 634-1900 to sign up!
*Wichita Riding Academy – Come enjoy all the fun to be had at Wichita Riding Academy, Inc.’s Spring Break Camp in March! Daily camps are offered March 20th-23rd. Campers will ride for 1 hour each day! Each day’s camp has a different theme. Wichita Sports Forum – Your kids will love burning off energy at Wichita’s only premiere multi-sports facility and extreme air sports trampoline park! The Wichita Sports Forum is offering Spring Break Camp for grades K-6, from March 20 to 24. The times are from 8:30 to 12:30 for the half-day option ($100 per week, $30 dollar per half-day). The full day option is from 8:30 am to 5:30 pm, lunch included ($180 per week, $50 per day).
Wichita Thunder – Watch the Wichita Thunder take on the Quad City Mallards on Wednesday, March 22, at 7:05pm! You can also watch them take on the Missouri Mavericks on Friday, March 24 at 7:05pm!
*YMCA – The 2017 annual Spring Break Camps will be held at the Andover, Northwest, North and South YMCA’s during the week of March 20-24, 2017. Enrollment is now available for all locations. Activities include Field Trips, Games, Crafts, Swimming and more. Cost for Spring Break Camp: $60 (1-3 days) or $100 (4-5 days). Enroll now for Spring Break Camps.
*Youth Lawn Mowing Clinic at the Sedgwick County Extension Office – If you know any 5th through 9th graders who want to make a little extra money mowing lawns this summer, be sure to set aside a few hours during Spring Break for them to take the Youth Lawn Mowing Clinic at the Sedgwick County Extension. The clinic will be held this year on March 22, 2017. Sign up early (before March 10) for a good discount on the registration fee! The cost of the clinic is only $10 for advanced registration up to March 10, or $15 after that date. Space is limited so make sure to register early. The deadline for registration is March 20, 2017 or a full class, whichever is first.
