Monthly Events Guide :: September 2016

September events in wichitaSchool is in full swing and summer is in the rear view mirror. Fear not! There are still plenty of opportunities to enjoy the outdoors or spend time with the girls before the cool weather hits us. If we missed one of the fun September events in Wichita, let us know by leaving a comment or adding it to our Family Calendar.

September 1: The Museum of World Treasures has its monthly Family Night on the first Thursday of every month. Bring the entire crew for $5.00 each!

September 2: Tanganyika is jumping on the Pokeman bandwagon with a PokePalooza. It’s sure to be fun for anyone trying to catch them all!

September 2-5: Whole Foods is hosting a Party on the Plaza. This includes a dance party, a 5k race, and a birthday party!

September 3-5: Exploration Place is preparing to say goodbye to Dinosaurs In Motion. Be sure to check it out before the exhibit is extinct!

September 5: If you enjoy running with the family, you’ll love the Labor Run 5k, benefitting the Treehouse. Even if running isn’t your thing, come on down for a pancake feed!

September 6: Books and donuts – what more could you ask for? The Blue Baboon Bookstore will be at the Donut Whole for story time and an activity, reading Ada Twist, Scientist.

September 9: Paint your own sugar skull Keeper of the Plains at the Mid-America All-Indian Center.

September 10: Great Plains Nature Center is all abuzz with fun info and activities all about bees, butterflies, bats, birds and more during the Prairie Pollinator Party. Local honey and homemade ice cream will be available for purchase too.

September 10: Mom, you need to relax, too! Head over to Wichita Art Museum for Yoga on the Lawn to start the weekend all zen and stuff.

September 10: Old Cowtown Museum is roaring into the 1920s with all things jazzy and gangster. It’ll be the cat’s meow!

September 10: Watermark Books and Cafe is hosting a special story time with Riverside Music Together.

September 11: Bring your blanket for a free Ballet in the Park performance of Alice in Wonderland.

September 15: The third annual Night at the Museum promises to be a rolling good time. Join the ICT Roller Girls at the Wichita Art Museum for a night celebrating all things wheeled.

September 16: Indulge your family’s artistic side at The Art Park and go home with your own Mini Masterpiece.

September 17: Join the Wichita Moms Blog crew at Andover eCademy for Hanging with Heroes! (This event is sold out.)

September 18: The cooler weather means it is way less miserable to exercise outdoors. Learn more about all the bike paths and how to bike Wichita at this Intro to Bicycling.

September 22: The weather is still cooperating for an evening at Aley Park with Barry’s Mobile Recreation Station.

September 24: Botanica is celebrating all things Monarch Butterfly! Join them for art, activities, and a STEAM station.

September 24: Come hungry, leave happy – The Wichita Wagonmasters will be sponsoring a Chili Cookoff downtown.

September 24: Stroll the paths of the Great Plains Nature Center and watch artists at work, capturing the beauty of our fair city.

September 24: Your littles will go crazy for the Morning Craft and Breakfast hosted by Love of Character.

September 25: The entire family will enjoy the Hispanic Heritage Celebration, complete with mariachi band and a Mexican food truck!

Meaghan wears many hats throughout the day: wife to husband of fifteen years, Jeremy, mom to two incredible children, Jacob and Aliza, legal assistant, foster parent, and surrogate. A Wichita native, she met her husband at K-State (Go State!) and they moved from coast (Los Angeles, CA) to coast (Manchester, NH and Groton, CT) before settling back down in Kansas. She is a big fan of her crock pots, has read more than a novel a day for the last five years, and crochets in her “spare” time.
