Margaritas for Mamas

“Summertime and the living is easy…” said no mom ever. Sure it can be fun, but between shuttling kids to summer camps, knocking out summer bucket list activities, and just living that #momlife, it sure would be nice to kick our feet up and unwind with a refreshing libation. What’s better on a hot summer’s day then an ice cold margarita? A margarita that fits your mama personality. I bring to you Margaritas for Mamas – which one are you?

The No Funny Business Mama
(Classic Margarita)

Your toddler has asked “why?” for the millionth time, and/or has thrown more fits than his or her allotted amount.

Or maybe you’ve had one too many eye rolls from your know-it-all teen.

Whatever your situation may be, this margarita is for the mom who has had it up to here and needs something she knows she loves.

The Spice Up Your Life Mama
(Strawberry Chili Margarita)

You’ve official changed your title from “Mom” to “Chauffeur.”

Or maybe you’ve sang all the songs, built and knocked down all the towers, and solved all the puzzles a person can take (clearly I am the mother of a toddler).

This margarita is for the mom who needs a little kick to get some new adventures started.

The Flower Crown Mama
(Virgin Honey Hibiscus Margarita)

Your ankles are swollen, you feel like it’s 112 degrees outside, and don’t even get you started on what swimsuit to shove your beautiful pregnant body into. Or maybe alcohol just doesn’t do much for you.

Either way this is for the mom who wants to feel special with a pretty drink in her hand minus the alcohol.

Call up your Mama friends, bust out the limes and tequila, and have yourself a margarita party.

CLASSIC MARGARITA RECIPE

Ingredients:

4 ounces fresh citrus juice (I like a combination of lemon, lime, and a touch of orange)

1.5 ounces tequila

1 ounce Triple Sec (or Grand Marnier is wonderful)

2 ounces simple syrup (or agave)

course sea salt (optional, but not really *wink*)

ice

Directions:

Salt the rim of your glass by rubbing it with a lime wedge and then dipping it into a plate with a good pour of sea salt. Fill with ice and set aside.

Add your citrus juice, tequila, Triple Sec, simple syrup, and a good scoop of ice to a cocktail shaker. “Shake, shake, shake Señora…”

Strain into your prepared glass. Sit. Sip. Smile.

STRAWBERRY CHILI MARGARITA RECIPE

Ingredients:

3 strawberries, tops removed and sliced

2 limes, juiced

2 lemons, juiced

2 ounces Tequila

1.5 ounces simple syrup (or agave)

1/2 teaspoon chili powder

salt

ice

Directions:

Salt the rim of your glass by rubbing it with a lime wedge and then dipping it into a plate with a good pour of sea salt and a sprinkling of chili powder. Fill with ice and set aside.

Add the strawberries and chili powder to a cocktail shaker and muddle them together. Add the juice from the limes and lemons, tequila, simple syrup, and a good scoop of ice. “Shake, shake! Shake, shake, shake it!”

Strain into your prepared glass. Drink. Dance. Repeat.

HONEY HIBISCUS MARGARITA RECIPE

Ingredients:

6 ounces boiling water

3 Hibiscus tea bags

1 lime

1 tablespoons honey

Directions:

Steep the tea in the boiling water for 5-7 minutes. While the tea is steeping, stir in the honey. Let cool.

Add ice, the tea, and lime juice to your glass and “Stir it up… little darling, stir it up.”

Put on your flower crown, drape yourself across a lounge chair, have your pool boy cool you with a giant palm-leaf fan, and sip to your heart’s content.
