Let me preface this by saying that I am a lover of fall. Pumpkins, cooler weather, foliage, and most of all I love the fashion! Dressing during the fall can be tricky because it is a transitional season – especially here in the midwest where the days can be warm but the nights cold. Check out WMB’s picks for 2015 fall fashion trends:
Vests, please! Vests are a must-have item this fall, and there are several popular styles to suit any taste! One of my favorites that has withstood the fashion test of time is the Puffer Vest. I love this vest because it can be dressed up or dressed down depending upon the look you are going for. I love pairing a puffer vest with a long-sleeved flannel button down and pearls. My favorite place to purchase puffer vests are Old Navy and J. Crew.
Another vest that is popular this fall is the fringe vest. I’ve seen several variations of this trend ranging from southwestern looking to boho chic. I love this vest because it is perfect for day to night wear and can still keep you warm during cooler fall evenings! Nordstrom and H & M carry variations of this vest that are fabulous.
Long cardigan sweaters also referred to as “duster sweaters” are popular this fall, and I have a love/hate relationship with this trend. I love how cozy the sweaters are, but being petite these sweaters can make me look even shorter. If you are petite and looking at purchasing a duster sweater make sure the bottom hits you around mid-calf, this is long enough to be stylish, but short enough to not swallow you. This duster from Nordstrom’s is one that I am eyeing; it’s perfect in affordability and length.
They say history repeats itself, and so does fashion. This fall high-waisted flared jeans are making a comeback. These jeans flatter almost any body type because they go above the waist, making the waist appear slimmer and legs longer: a win-win style situation. Nordstrom’s (free shipping AND free return shipping, yes please!), H&M, as well as Forever XXI carry these fabulous jeans in an array of washes and prices.
Boyfriend jeans are still a closet staple this fall. Pair this jean with booties and a flannel shirt for a perfect low-key outfit, or dress them up with a sweater and stillettos for a more put together look. Either way you cannot go wrong with these jean! GAP, Nordstrom’s, and Madewell (J. Crew’s sister company) all make fabulous boyfriend jeans.
While I love a good riding boot, I am all about the booties this fall. What I love most is that you can wear them with almost anything. My favorite ways to wear booties are to pair them with cut off jean shorts for a boho look or with cuffed boyfriend jeans for a more casual look. This season fringe booties are all the rage. The pair I’ve been eyeing are the Sam Edelman ‘Louie” booties. They come in an assortment of colors and are versatile to wear with most outfits. These booties are on my fall fashion wish list!
Another fall favorite of mine are the Converse Chuck Taylor’s. I’ve loved these shoes for years and still adore them. This summer I lived in my white Chucks and this fall and winter I plan to do the same with a pair I have in grey.
Last fall Zara’s cozy and warm Tartan Blanket Scarf was sold out everywhere. This fall the blanket scarf is still a poplar accessory for warming up those cool fall nights by the fire pit. Several other stores make this popular scarf in an array of prints and colors.
Tassel jewelry is also a popular accessory this fall. My favorite is the “Rayne” necklace from Kendra Scott: perfect for layering and very versatile. If this piece is a little pricey for your taste, many retailers sell Kendra Scott “inspired” jewelry pieces at a fraction of the cost.
While I may be the only woman whom hates the taste of pumpkin flavored anything (yes, even PSL from Starbuck’s), I certainly feel more apt to leaving the carefree days of summer behind me when I know my fall fashion wardrobe awaits me!
