Walk In, Strut Out : European Wax Center {Sponsored Review + Giveaway}

European Wax Center

Disclosure: Wichita Moms Blog has partnered with European Wax Center to bring you this sponsored post. That said, all services listed here are those that we have tested personally, stand behind and are excited to bring this wonderful community of moms.

Until yesterday, I was a wax virgin.

I am a 32 year old mother of two who has had a non-medicated child birth, yet I break out into hives just thinking about getting any part of my body waxed. (There is something about the thought of placing scalding hot wax on my body and ripping hair from the roots. I’ve seen 40 Year Old Virgin – no thank you.

Needless to say, it took some convincing when our team was asked to try European Wax Center which recently opened in the Waterfront. But I was completely and pleasantly surprised by my first-ever waxing experience!

And though I personally don’t have anything to compare my wax service to, I asked the other WMB team members to share what they noticed in comparison to other wax experiences or salons.

eyebrow waxHow is European Wax Center Different than a spa?

The environment was completely sterile, and the staff was informative and professional. Rather than a spa-feel, it actually has a clinical-feel, more like a doctor’s office.

Spas often use a traumatic hot wax, where EWC uses a special wax specifically engineered for them. This wax was designed to be less traumatic and significantly more comfortable. Additionally, one of our “veteran wax” team members mentioned that spas tend to focus on pampering, where EWC focuses on their exclusive waxing techniques. They follow a 4 step process which includes prepping, cleansing the skin, and pampering it afterwards.

Ouch! Does Waxing Hurt?

I have super sensitive, easily-irritated baby skin. So, I was quite nervous about the pain. I ended up getting an eyebrow wax and was completely surprised at how much it didn’t hurt. I mean, it wasn’t the equivalent of a massage, but there really wasn’t as much pain as I expected. My wax specialist talked me through every step of the process, and I only experienced a few minutes of discomfort. I also expected to have a breakout or redness for days after the service because of my sensitive skin, but the redness subsided after a couple of hours.

The rest of the WMB team members also mentioned that their services (bikini waxes) were less painful than others they had experienced in the past.

Is Waxing Awkward?

European Wax Center’s licensed and specially trained aestheticians are extremely professional and specialize in waxing. It’s what they do all day, every day. My wax specialist answered my questions, calmed my fears, and walked me through the process. In regards to awkwardness, we all agreed the staff made us feel relaxed and comfortable. One member of the WMB contributor team said when referencing her bikini wax, “The staff made me feel comfortable in a super uncomfortable position.” Isn’t that the truth!

Now that I have experienced a true professional waxing studio and understand the importance of the process, I don’t know that I could go anywhere else. I can’t even imagine going somewhere that uses wax strips that burn off the top layer of skin. I’m excited Wichita has a waxing studio with professional services for women (and men!) where the focus is professionalism, cleanliness, and comfort. I will absolutely go back!
