When it comes to fitness classes, I’m always up for trying something new! A lot of moms may be intimidated by the words “boot camp” – visions of drill sergeants and shrill whistles dancing through their heads – but that couldn’t be farther from the truth at USA Martial Arts & Fitness. The staff is encouraging, and the workouts – though tough – are engaging. Plus, you can take all the water breaks you need, and no one will make you cry!
Most fitness classes are 75-90 minutes long and are structured in 6 week units. Owner/Instructor Ron Brockman has designed the sessions to get progressively more challenging each week as YOU get progressively stronger! I almost backed out when I learned how long the classes are, but I’m so glad I didn’t. Ron’s wife, Taryn, eased my concerns and explained that it was okay to go at my own pace and to stop if needed. In fact, she said some people don’t even make it through their first class…but they always come back for more!
Two other WMB contributors joined me for the Fitness Kickboxing Bootcamp class so, it was a huge relief to not be the only newbie. Ron led the large group through a variety of cardio and strength exercises, and we could barely feel our legs by the end! Our circuit training sessions utilized both weights and kickboxing (fun!), but the hardest exercise by far had us partner up and use a harness to pull the other person back while running forward! I thought I was going to fall flat on my face, but my trusty partner made sure that didn’t happen.
Although I needed a lot of water breaks, Ron was super motivating and stopped me as needed to correct my form or offer tips for improvement. He made his way through the gym, offering encouragement and individual attention to each student in the class. Looking around, I was impressed by the variety of people in our group. There were men and women of all ages, including a pregnant woman (get it, girl!) and a mom with her teenage sons! She told me after taking the class for several months she was in the best shape of her life – and I can absolutely see why:
- There’s no thinking involved! No guessing how to properly balance upper and lower body exercises – no wondering how long to do cardio or which machines to use. Ron has mapped out a heart-pounding 90-minute session that will use every muscle in your body and leave you drenched in sweat. All you have to do is show up!
- Every class is completely different! It is literally impossible to get bored. More importantly, it prevents the dreaded fitness plateau. This is why they are one of the longest running and most successful fitness programs in Wichita! They have an extremely high retention rate with members who have been doing Boot Camp for 7 years! This is NOT a fitness fad – it’s a well-balanced program drawing from tried and true strength and cardio fitness principles.
- The atmosphere is truly one of an encouraging “fitness family”! The members at USA Martial Arts and Fitness are warm, kind, and welcoming to ALL – not matter your fitness level or exercise history. There is nothing intimidating about the staff or classes – every element is designed with success in mind! Ron really tries to get to know his clients individually, so don’t be surprised to receive a text from him if you miss class. How’s that for accountability?!
In addition to Boot Camp classes, they also offer Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and Taekwondo for adults and kids. In fact, they have adult classes running at the same time as the kids’ classes – BRILLIANT! Busy moms can kill two birds with one stone, dropping kids off for Taekwondo and then popping into their own fitness class.
I don’t know about you, but to me this sounds like a recipe for RESULTS!
Because owners Ron and Taryn are so excited about meeting your fitness goals and needs, they are providing not one but TWO giveaways for our readers!
