Invest in a Love of Learning

Money Matters: Save with Rhea Lana's and Learning Quest | Wichita Moms BlogAs the owner of Rhea Lana’s in Wichita, I’m marrying my love of consignment (Name brands for a quarter of the price? Done!) with my passion for saving for my daughter’s college education (because it will be here sooner than I think).

I started a 529 plan for my daughter, Brynlie (now 8), early on to maximize savings. I’ve seen how saving early – just a little at a time – compounds and makes a difference. I’ll have funds set aside when the time comes, instead of hitting panic mode when she turns 18. As a single mom, it’s important for me to provide opportunities for my daughter, and there’s no greater opportunity than college.

Growing up, my parents gave my brother and me three options after high school: 1. College. 2. Military. 3. Support yourself. My brother chose the ,and I chose college. My parents always said: “You can do anything you want to do in life if you have a college education.” I absolutely believe it because I’m living proof! I started the Rhea Lana’s franchise in Wichita in 2009 to help families save money, and my education from Wichita State made that possible.

The Gift That Keeps on Giving

I don’t know about you, but we have way too many toys (consignment anyone?). It only takes 5 minutes for Brynlie drop one toy and move on to the next! One day I asked my parents, “Instead of more ‘stuff’ for birthdays and holidays, how about one small item and $25 to $50 toward Brynlie’s college education fund?” It worked. It’s a fulfilling feeling to know their gift will have a genuine, lasting impact on her life.

You can give to your kids in the same way – visit Learning Quest to see how to open an account and start saving today!

Rhea Lana's WichitaAmanda Birdsong grew up in Derby and stayed local to earn her degree in Marketing from Wichita State University.  After having becoming a new mom to daughter Brynlie in 2007, she soon discovered Rhea Lana’s.  Two years later she purchased the Wichita territory and was thrilled to introduce the upscale children’s consignment event franchise to midwest families.  She is not only grateful to be working from home as a single mother, but also for the opportunity to live out a life-long dream of being an entrepreneur.  In her spare time she loves CrossFit, community races, weekends at the lake and volunteering at her daughter’s school.
