Money Talk for Moms {Event Recap}

Thank you to Edward Jones Financial Advisors Joe Metzen and Jonathan Hoskins for sponsoring this event and providing valuable information to our attendees!

It was an evening of delicious dinner, wine, kid-free conversation, learning the basics of investing and college savings, meeting new friends, and the best chocolate cake I’ve eaten in a really long time.

A huge thank you to Edward Jones and our hosts of the evening, Jonathan Hoskins and Joe Metzen. And another thank you to guest speaker from American Funds, Doug Parsley – who discussed the importance of college savings and that it’s never to late to begin saving.

We’ve received incredible feedback from attendees, and it was so fun to meet new faces in a smaller, intimate setting and to see a sister duo, a mother daughter duo, and many who came solo to learn about the financial basics of planning for the future.

Though my husband and I have begun the saving process to plan for our future, I still took away so much from this evening and am thankful for the information I gained. I was surprised to learn the following:

Nearly 80-90% of women will be solely responsible for their finances at some point in their lives.”

and

Women leave the workforce for an average of 12 years to care for young children or aging parents.”

Though those facts didn’t surprise me, they reminded me how important it is to have a full understanding of my personal financial situation and where my family stands with our goals at any given time.

Jonathan and Joe outlined 5 Money Questions for Women, which included important questions to think about in the first stages of financial planning but also to revisit year after year as our financial goals change. They emphasized the importance of starting the conversation sooner than later, because it doesn’t cost anything to have that conversation.

In a nutshell, we discussed the 5 questions to think about to assess our personal financial needs:

  1. Where am I today?
  2. Where would I like to be?
  3. Can I get there?
  4. How do I get there?
  5. How can I stay on track?

The whole evening gave me a lot to think about, and I’ve already begun to implement some of the things we discussed (like “how can I stay on track” – this is the part that is always the hardest for me personally)! Joe and Jonathan emphasized the importance of starting the conversation sooner than later and it doesn’t cost anything to have that conversation.

Overall, it was a great evening with great information – and this was such a fun event to host for our community of moms. Thank you to all who attended!
